What you will practise
- Identify the work barrier and hear the person’s account without assumptions or unnecessary personal history.
- Hold a private, work-focused conversation and agree next steps while obtaining necessary advice.
- Compare options against the barrier, practical requirements and evidence, then explain the decision.
- Agree actions, owners and review dates, sharing only information needed to implement the arrangement.
- Check delivery before judging effectiveness, and maintain support when work or managers change.
Inside the course
Six sections cover the duty and work barriers, a useful first conversation, matching options to the work, explaining a reasoned decision, implementing support privately, and reviewing effectiveness and continuity.
Work through six connected scenario films, 18 practice decisions and six workshops involving sorting, drafting and sequencing. The fictional cases keep employee experience, manager responsibility and operational constraints in view. Captions, transcripts and written visual information provide alternatives to watching the films.
Tools to take back to work
- Barrier-to-option worksheet and conversation planner.
- Reasoned-decision record and adjustment agreement or passport.
- Review and handover checklist, plus a combined workbook. The five tools are available in PDF and editable Word formats.
Assessment and completion
Review all six sections and complete the required practices, workshops and film or written routes, then achieve at least 8 out of 10 in the untimed final assessment. Retries and optional targeted rechecks support learning. A downloadable completion certificate records the course requirements met.
Licence and practical details
Discuss an annual or permanent fixed-version licence, organisation-size pricing, a charity discount or a bulk order. Confirm compatibility in your organisation’s LMS before rollout. The 60–75-minute duration is an estimate and may vary with reflection and practice.
The course covers England, Scotland and Wales. It supports workplace decisions, not diagnosis, treatment or individual legal advice, and does not certify legal compliance. Use fictional details during learning and keep real employee information in approved organisational records.
